Citizen’s card, as defined in Article 2 of Law 7/2007 of 5 February, “is an authentic document containing the details of each citizen relevant to their identification and includes the civil identification number, tax identification number, health care user number and social security identification number ”.
Substituting, in most cases, the Identity Card, the Citizen Card added in a single document, very small format and suitable for our wallets, most of the most relevant identification numbers of all Portuguese citizens. But not only the exterior of this little card matters. The truth is that, since it contains a chip that identifies each card, a panoply of information about the cardholder can be obtained through a card reader.
Whether you are a fan of the citizen card or not, the citizen card is here to stay!
Thus, given the need to keep citizen card data up to date, a 10-year validity has been established. Approaching the date of expiration of your citizen card, you should renew it, updating your data, if applicable.
There are, however, other situations in which you may renew your ID, namely:
– Loss, theft or theft of the citizen card;
– Loss of letter with PIN codes;
– The citizen card will expire in the next 6 months;
– You want to change the data printed on the document, such as photo, nickname, name, gender, signature, affiliation, or nationality.
In the first three situations, you will no longer have to go to the Civil Registry Office and wait for long hours before being attended. Instead, you can contact the neighborhood bus / solicitor (?) And request the renewal of your citizen card quickly, safely and conveniently. This requires some requirements, such as:
– The renewing citizen card holder must be 25 or older;
– The citizen card to be renewed must have been applied for before October 1, 2017, and therefore has a validity period of 5 years;
– The citizen card to be renewed must be valid or has not expired for more than 30 days;
– The cardholder’s fingerprints to be renewed must exist in the IRN system;
– If you have lost your card or been stolen, you must have previously canceled your old card.
